Journey into God

Journey into God

    This translation of Bonaventure’s great work has itself been on a long journey, as the translators describe in their Introduction. That long pondering shows every sentence where- just as in Bonaventure’s original- there are few thoughtless words or unintended implications. The photos, too, have grown from a reading of the text rather than a desire to illustrate, and therefore they make their own contribution.

    To translate a masterpiece across nearly eight hundred years is a considerable challenge but there is one test which indicates that this challenge has been successfully met, and it is this. When I read Bonaventure, I always come away a little more converted, a little more committed, with a renewed energy and dedication and love. To my delight and relief, the same ‘Bonaventure effect’ is to be found in this translation. Take it and read it, as the Lord said to Augustine, himself one of Bonaventure’s masters.” {Sr. Francis Teresa Downing OSC, Poor Clare Monastery, St. Leonards-on-the-Sea, England}

    Softcover, 128 pages.
